Wood work

Wood Work

For this last term the year 7s at Matawai school have being working in wood work.
Peter has been our wood work teacher, he has shared alot of tricks, tips, and knowlage with us.
For the last 9 weeks we have being making stools.
Some of the hardest parts were making sure that your measurements are perfect, and your cuts are straight. Today we completed our stools, and oiled the timber. I am going to use my stool for a mini book shelf in my room.

Zoo Writting

Zoo Writing

For the last week room 4 have being working on a persuasive text, it was about weather zoos should be banned or they should stay.We have to try to convince our audience. Here is my writing, I hope you agree?

I believe the idea of zoos being banned is preposterous. I strongly believe that zoos play a great part in the world, because they teach people about animals and how they live. I think that it would be cruel to not have zoos because say when the Australia bush fires struck, where would have all of the koalas gone. Plus all of the endangered animals would have become extinct.

A long time ago zoos didn’t take a lot of care for their animals, they just wanted money. Nowadays zoos try as hard as they possibly can to help the animals in their natural habitat. They also have vets onsite if there is an animal that gets sick. They also have facilities to care for sick animals.

Zoos must remain open so all people can learn about animals, and their habitat. If zoos weren’t here I don’t know what would replace them. I definitely believe zoos should stay open.

Robotics

Robotics
Today for tech we had our principle (Mr Knight) because our tech teacher was sick.
Our focus was on team work, and we had to mix the groups up.
One challenge for me was to follow the instructions, E.G it took me about 20 minutes to make a really cool battle bot...But there was a problem, I forgot to put the motors and the gears in.
Our aim was to have a game of football, with the bots when we were finished. Sadly we didn't finish, but we will get a chance.

Fungi slow writing

Today we were learning slow writing, which is when you write to a set of instructions, for example you have to start your writing with a question or begin your sentence with a verb.
Have you ever had a go at slow writing?
We went for a fungi hunt around our school and took photos of the fungi so we could look at the variety we have growing around our school. We chose one photo to write about.

Duncan's Homemade KFC

In lock down it can get pretty boring so our school teachers give us challenges to do.
This week for our tech challenge we had to make some sort of fast food.
I made HOMEMADE KFC!!
The only thing that was challenging was dodging the oil splatters.
The batter around the outside of the chicken breasts crusted up really well.
To be honest I think if I cooked it to much longer It wouldn't taste good, but it tasted pretty mutch like KFC.
Have you ever made your own KFC?
What are your honest thoughts of my homemade KFC?

skull cap

Skull Cap Mount
This all started by Dad taking my sister and I out hunting,
and we shot a big 11 pointer stag.
The head wasn't really a record for our farm but I thought it would be cool to have a mount in my room.

So, when we were cutting up the stag I decided to skin the stags head.Man I really thought that this was a privilege.
Firstly we boiled the head in a large pot, so there was no meat left on the head.
Then there was one last thing to do it was probably one of the hardest things, the shield.
We had  three options of wood, I choose plywood because it is really easy to work with and you don't have to do as much sanding.
Lastly I stained the wood with a rimu coloured stain.
Below is the head, which I have to mount on a shield.

Making a table in lock down.

Table
Since it is lock down I have decided to make a table with battens.
This is my first table that has worked out, I have tried about 3 times and this is the first that I am happy with.We have tested it, and I can sit and stand on the table without it breaking. This table is made out of old battens and new battens.

I use this table for storing all of my motocross gear on.
What are your thoughts on it?

My Pepeha

Today we were learning to use tour builder to make a pepeha.
Next time I will try and add some voice.
Have you ever made a pepeha?

Wasp Nests

Wasps!!
At school we were learning about wasps, so I decided to take it a step further.
We had 3 wasp nest that I found at home, so I dug them up.
There were hundreds of little wasps at the bottom of the hole, that had just hatched so they couldn't
fly.
I put them on a shovel and took them up to the house and froze them.
The next day I took them to school with me.
It had 5 compartments that were full of lava.
When we were planting in the school garden we discovered a wasp nest so we made wasp traps.
I created a set of instructions.
Do you have any wasp nest's at your school?  You could make a trap too!
