Making a table in lock down.

Table
Since it is lock down I have decided to make a table with battens.
This is my first table that has worked out, I have tried about 3 times and this is the first that I am happy with.We have tested it, and I can sit and stand on the table without it breaking. This table is made out of old battens and new battens.

I use this table for storing all of my motocross gear on.
What are your thoughts on it?

  1. Hello Duncan
I am really impressed with the hands-on activities you have been doing over lockdown. I'm not sure if I know how I would even begin to make a table!
How did you get your table legs nice and even so that the table is level?
Have you re-used battens from an old fence line?
    Bye for now

  3. Kia ora Duncan, I'm from The University of Auckland and I was really impressed with your carpentry and conservation - being thrifty by finding new purposes for old materials. You seem to be a good problem solver by using your mathematics knowledge too. I was wondering, because you mentioned motorcross gear, whether you have been able to continue practising during lock down, or whether like some motor sports, you've gone online? Thanks for sharing.

  4. Kia ora Duncan,
this table looks really sturdy. What sort of gear do you need for Motorcross?
Have you got favourite places to practise on your farm? Do you go by yourself?
What else have you been doing during lockdown?

  5. Hi Duncan,
It is great to be able to connect with you. Your table is just the ticket! My boys were always making things like outside seats, benches and tables out of old totara battens when they were young too.
How are things on the farm? Do you have plenty of feed? How have you been helping Mum and dad out?
    Well done on your post.

  6. Hi Duncan
I bet you felt a great sense of achievement once you had finished constructing your table Duncan.
I like things made from old weathered battens, railings and posts. I have a few items in my garden that Ben made when he was at school.
Keep up the good work Duncan

  7. Awesome Duncan, so impressed about your creations. I've been doing lots of building too but I'm running out of old things to work with!

  8. Kia ora Duncan. This is a great use of resources available during Lockdown. My own children started building wooden furniture at a similar age and now they are very skilled at making tables and chairs. What is you next project going to be?

  9. Kia ora Duncan. This is awesome! I always feel good about things that I create myself. I'm sure you would have learned a lot about what worked, and what might not have worked, and that's what makes a good creator. You motorcross gears are so lucky :-) Well done.
